What would make Jay and Giraffe move for a specialization in the corporate
market, especially with their recent network television success?
"I could give you a plethora of responses but it boils down to something very simple in the end. Giraffe and I, with the people at New York Entertainment know how a corporate show should be run. It's as simple as that. We enjoy it, we are good at it, and we think we can do a better job of making a show successful beyond the client's wildest dreams. We evaluate the circumstances and then let them know, if you want to have a great show, this is how it goes." Well, that's a pretty all inclusive answer. Experience largely speaks for itself. Obviously with Jay being a stand-up comedian and being affiliated with one of the largest comedy agencies in the country (NYE), there has been a pretty heavy emphasis on the comedy angle of things. "Comedy may be a forte, but not a limitation. Besides the laughs, Giraffe Productions can bring you music, motivational speakers, authors, novelty - anything you need. We can offer stage and lights design. It can be as simple as monitors and display materials to multiple projection screens with edited and altered clips with videos being displayed large enough for thousands of people. Some events demand no specialty design or materials, some events do. Some need to be filmed and have video production. If a client wants their event filmed for future use or reference, we can do it. We know where Jay would go for a lot of his comedy for these events, but he explains it would not be fair to the client or him to be partial to one source or the other. "I would not want to narrow the scope as to who they can have for their events. That just isn't right. I am going to give them whatever they want. We try to focus on their specific needs and work from there. You have to, if they are to be happy with the end result. Certainly I can listen to what they want and make suggestions, but I won't steer them one way or the other just for my benefit. It will benefit me much more for them to have their perfect show and pass that on to the next client. "People get nervous when they have an event. Preparing for any event can be nerve racking. Employees feel their job is going to be on the line. The boss will be there; don't offend the boss. What if it doesn't go well? What if the entertainment does not show up? What if the lights go off? These are concerns that are passed on to us. We deal with them. Sit back and enjoy yourself." Jay explains that there are some people he works with that are go-to guys. "These are people that I have learned to rely on in my years of being involved in entertainment. They know their jobs and I know I can depend on them. I won't be specific because that is like showing you what's up my sleeve. I don't want to tip my hand just yet. Let's just say maybe you need a young up and coming comic, or two or three. Maybe you need a band from England. Maybe you need a motivational speaker. Maybe you need Louie Anderson. It doesn't matter, we will make it happen for you." Just because I like him, we will give Jay a shameless plug for his book, entitled 'Gasping For Airtime'. Released on June 9, it chronicles Jay's years with 'Saturday Night Live' and details having panic attacks while performing there. Be sure to check it out. According to Jay, "People should be a little net savvy and do some surfing before they dive head first into booking entertainment. It can save you a lot of headaches. "I encourage them to shop around. When they are done and ready, give us a call. No one will do it better. It is like buying a Cadillac. You can go to all the other lots, but nothing drives like a Cadillac."
